A few weeks ago Elena Rybakina was awarded what is arguably the most sought-after award in tennis: being a Wimbledon winner.
However in spite of her historic first grand slam triumph at London the month of July described her experiences
as the first Wimbledon champ to be "not the greatest," noting that she feels her name is "not being the Wimbledon champion."
Rybakina's discontents are triggered by the fact that the world rankings were not granted during Wimbledon this year
due to the tournament's decision to expel Russian as well as Belarusian players in the aftermath of Russia's incursion into Ukraine.
Typically Rybakina's global rank would have increased following her win at Wimbledon and she could be expected to break the top 10 next year.
